Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Minister of Government Communications, has refuted claims made by Akosua Manu, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, regarding a video of an aircraft inspection.

Manu alleged that the controversial Covak aircraft’s tires burst while it was in the air.

The government had earlier released video footage of the inspection conducted on the Covak aircraft, which had been accused of carrying illicit substances upon its arrival in Ghana.

The footage showed a cargo consisting of oil drills and jerrycans of oil, imported for specific purposes, with officials seen working on a burst tire.

On April 6, 2025, Akosua Manu took to X (formerly Twitter) to question how the aircraft’s tire could have burst mid-air while in motion.

She accused the minister of attempting to mislead the public with the video.

“Staged!! A flight takes off and, while in the air, its tires get damaged?? Jokes. Simple questions are asked and within minutes your posture is unnecessarily rude and antagonistic. The matter still remains that over $400 million worth of cocaine has passed through this country in the first quarter. New York City can’t even record such high figures!

“Your former NDC parliamentary candidate was allegedly also involved in a $150 million bust—a case we know won’t go anywhere, given the fantastic ‘wipe-the-slate-spotlessly-clean’ approach the Attorney General has taken regarding any NDC person. This issue doesn’t wash away the historic quantum of drugs that has taken root in this country in just three months!” she fumed.

Kwakye Ofosu responded to the claims, slamming Manu for twisting facts to serve her propaganda agenda.

He clarified that the aircraft had a flat tire upon its arrival in Ghana, which forced a delay for repairs before departure.

He emphasised that the tire did not burst mid-air, as claimed.

“Typical propagandist. Shift the goalpost when exposed. You heard me clearly say in the video I posted on Thursday that the Air Med plane was here for refueling and crew rest but had a tire burst after landing, compelling them to stay a while for it to be fixed. Where did you hear anyone mention a tire burst in the air?” he wrote on X on April 6, 2025.
