Ghana Athletics (GA) has announced the suspension with effect, coaches Wisdom Loh and Jeffrey Nkrumah over alleged abuse of athletes.

The two have also been barred from representing the GA in any capacity at any athletics-related both in Ghana or at the International level.

In a statement released by the GA, it said the decision is in reaction to allegations of sexual abuse, including an abuse of minors, which is a criminal offence and strongly frowned upon by World Athletics and the Confederation of African Athletics.

The suspension is to enable the GA investigate the allegations and get to the bottom of the issue which the GA describes as “shocking and embarrassing.”

Investigation

In launching the investigation, the GA said the action is in line with the robust principles outlined in the World Athletics Safeguarding Policy which emphasises the protection of athletes from exploitation, abuse and coercion.

It said one of the cases borders on criminality and has thus, referred it to World Athletics for advise.

“Ghana Athletics is launching a comprehensive investigation into allegations of abuse of athletes, including sexual abuse of minors which is a criminal offence under the laws of Ghana, by some local coaches and so-called managers.

“Indeed, one of such case is being referred by the GA to World Athletics for the necessary guidance.

“These alleged Safeguarding violations represent a breach of both national and international laws and standards, as well as the human rights of the affected athletes and are therefore, bring thoroughly investigated,” the statement explained.
