Kennedy Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, recently shared his personal connection with Mohammed Kudus, the Ghanaian international footballer. The ex-legislator spoke about the bond he shares with Kudus during a donation event to a Muslim community on March 31, 2025, in Accra, which was held in celebration of Eid-al-Fitr. At this event, Agyapong donated 334 bags of rice to assist those in need during the festive season.
Agyapong expressed admiration for the sincerity of Muslims, emphasizing their commitment and loyalty. He noted, “The reason I hold Muslims in such high regard is because they are sincere. When they say they love you, they truly mean it.” He went on to recount a touching moment he shared with Kudus. Despite both of them being unwell, Kudus was upset that he could not meet Agyapong to wish him an Eid Mubarak. Agyapong described Kudus’s emotional response, highlighting how the young player’s actions reflected the deep affection and respect that Muslims have for those they care about.
The former MP also recalled the overwhelming support he received from the Muslim community during a difficult period in his life. In 2012, he was arrested on charges of treason, and many Muslim friends came to his aid. Agyapong was deeply moved when he saw them praying for him outside the Police Headquarters as he was being taken to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), now known as the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
In his legal history, Agyapong was acquitted and discharged by an Accra Circuit Court after standing trial for inciting behavior. The case stemmed from allegations of his involvement in making inflammatory remarks on his radio station, Oman FM. He had faced serious charges of attempted treason, genocide, and terrorism but was ultimately charged with lesser offenses. His lawyer, Ayikoi Otoo, successfully argued that the state had failed to present sufficient evidence, leading to Agyapong’s acquittal.
