This stunning musical collection showcases her mastery of songwriting and her profound connection to indigenous African sounds. Meet Rama Blak: The Ethnomusicologist Shaping Ghana’s Contemporary Sound

Rama Blak, born Awura-Ama Agyapong, is a dynamic force in Ghanaian music, blending indigenous sounds with modern influences. She first made her mark as a performer with the UG Highlife Ensemble at the University of Ghana, later working with various Accra-based bands between 2018 and 2019. Her early single Anansesem garnered attention for its fusion of storytelling and traditional Ghanaian music elements.

Currently leading her own band, Vibe Tribe, Rama Blak continues to captivate audiences with her unique sound. She is deeply committed to merging indigenous and contemporary African music, a passion that aligns with her academic pursuits—she is a PhD student in Ethnomusicology at the University of Ghana’s Department of Music.

Over the years, Rama has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Agya Osei Korankye, Atongo Zimba, the Legon Palmwine Band, and the Playing for Change Foundation. Her 2024 release, Becoming Rama Blak (The Discography), served as a comprehensive collection of her works dating back to 2017/2018, highlighting her evolution as an artist.

Raised with a passion for storytelling, music, and poetry, Rama Blak honed her craft at the University of Ghana, Legon, earning a degree in Music and Theatre Arts. She later completed her Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology at the same institution, where she now serves as a graduate assistant.

Her artistic influences span various musical traditions, from indigenous Ghanaian styles to global music trends. She has performed on numerous television and radio platforms and has worked with renowned musicians on tracks like Dokono Ni Meko (featuring Atongo Zimba) and Ghana Montie (featuring Osei Korankye).
