Parliament approves GHS1.2bn for Energy and Green Transition Ministry

Parliament has approved an amount of GHS 1.2 billion for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition for the 2025 fiscal year.

The allocation aims to support key initiatives focused on improving electricity distribution and advancing Ghana’s transition to renewable energy.

As part of its objectives for 2025, the Ministry is expected to procure and install one million smart meters in its operational areas under the Programme for Results policy.

Additionally, it seeks to introduce private sector participation in the electricity distribution sector to enhance efficiency and service delivery.

The Ministry has also outlined plans to commence the Accra-Kumasi transmission line project, which is expected to improve power supply reliability between the two major cities.

The Government Goes Solar project will also be implemented as part of efforts to promote clean and sustainable energy solutions.
