Bimbilla Court remands suspects over cattle killings, Fulbe property destruction

The Bimbilla Magistrate Court in the Northern Region has taken decisive action by remanding two individuals suspected of being involved in the killing of cattle and the destruction of properties owned by the Fulbes.

The suspects have been placed in police custody to allow for the completion of ongoing investigations.

Their next court appearance has been scheduled for 26th March 2025. The two suspects face charges that include unlawful possession of firearms, contrary to Section 11 of the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1972 (NRCD), and animal cruelty, as outlined in Section 303(1)(a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Legal representation for the suspects appealed to the court for bail, but the presiding judge denied the request, citing the gravity of the case.

The judge also encouraged law enforcement agencies to expedite their work to ensure the matter is resolved swiftly.

In response to the court’s ruling, members of the Fulbe community expressed their approval. Mohammed Yahaya, a spokesperson for the Fulbes, shared with Channel One News that, in addition to the current case, a man named Alhaji had also been killed.

Yahaya revealed that the body is currently at the Salaga hospital morgue and mentioned that over 400 cattle are still unaccounted for following the incident.
