According to the report by MyJoyOnline today Saturday, in Ashaiman, Ghana a tragic road accident in Ashaiman Constituency has claimed the lives of a well-known banker and his younger brother.
The two died instantly after their vehicle collided with a speeding truck on Saturday evening.
The victims have been identified as Kwame Owusu, a 38-year-old banker at Ghana Commercial Bank, and his younger brother, Emmanuel Owusu, a 28-year-old businessman.
The two were traveling from Tema to Ashaiman when the accident happened at around 7:30 PM.
“I was just by the roadside when I saw the car trying to overtake a truck. But suddenly, another truck appeared from the opposite direction. It was too late for the driver to stop,” said Kofi Mensah, a roadside fruit seller who witnessed the crash.
According to him, Kwame, who was driving, tried to avoid the truck but lost control.
“The car skidded off the road and hit a pole before crashing into the truck. It was a terrible scene,” he added.
Police officers from Ashaiman quickly arrived at the scene, along with a team of paramedics.
Sadly, Kwame and Emmanuel had already passed away.
“We received a distress call about the accident and rushed to the scene. Unfortunately, both victims were trapped inside the car. It took us over 30 minutes to remove their bodies,” said Inspector Joseph Anang of the Ashaiman Police Station.
The bodies were later transported to the Tema General Hospital morgue.
News of their deaths has shocked family, friends, and the entire community.
Their mother, Madam Afia Nyarko, collapsed upon hearing the news and had to be rushed to the hospital.
“I still can’t believe my sons are gone. Kwame was supposed to visit me this weekend,” she cried.
A close friend of Emmanuel, Richard Kusi, expressed his grief.
“He was a hardworking young man. He had big dreams, and now they are all gone just like that,” he said.
The Ashaiman Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
“We will analyze the CCTV footage and speak to more witnesses. We urge all drivers to be extra careful, especially at night,” Inspector Anang advised.
The family is now making funeral arrangements as they try to come to terms with the heartbreaking loss.
