Dr. John Jinapor, Minister of Energy and Green Transition
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that Ghana is set to construct a second gas processing plant to enhance the country’s energy supply.
He revealed that the Cabinet has approved the project, which will be undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance.
John Jinapor addressing the media at the Jubilee House on March 7, 2025 said the initiative aims to strengthen Ghana’s energy sector by increasing domestic gas processing capacity, reducing reliance on imports, and ensuring a stable power supply.
“We require about $700 million worth of liquid fuel to fill the fuel deficit because our current gas supply is inadequate to meet our energy needs. Consequently, Cabinet has approved a series of measures aimed at addressing the situation in the medium to long term.
“Cabinet, in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, has also approved immediate steps to construct a second gas processing plant,” the minister said.
He pointed out the further details of the project, including its timeline and funding arrangements, are expected to be outlined in the upcoming 2025 Budget presentation by the Minister of Finance on March 11, 2025.
