A recent video of Ghanaian businessman Dr. Osei Kwame Despite has stirred mixed reactions on social media after he was seen spraying just GH₵200 at a funeral. The incident occurred at the one-week observation for the late Mary Afriyie Quansah, where Despite made a grand entrance with his associates.
In the video, Dr. Despite, dressed in an all-black outfit and black sunglasses, interacted with an elderly woman known as Mama +2, who showcased her impressive Adowa dance moves. As the woman danced with excitement, holding several GH₵50 notes in front of him, Despite, visibly impressed, pulled out two GH₵100 notes and sprayed them on her.
This gesture, however, has sparked a debate online. While Despite has earned a reputation for his generosity, some Ghanaian were disappointed by the modest amount of money he chose to spray. One social media user remarked, “You see how Despite is finding it difficult to throw money on the lady. He suffers before getting that money.” Another added, “Despite go funeral pass anybody for Ghana since last year to this year.”
Despite’s charitable acts, such as his contributions to the Kantamanto fire victims, have earned him praise in the past. However, his recent funeral appearance has raised questions about the consistency of his public generosity.
