Students of Odorgonor Senior High School in Accra took to the streets on Monday, February 24, to protest faulty traffic lights and streetlights near their school, citing safety concerns.
The students lament that the malfunctioning signals have already led to the death of staff, and they fear more lives could be at risk if urgent action is not taken.
Their demonstration briefly disrupted traffic along the stretch.
According to the students, vehicles speed past the school’s entrance due to the non-functional traffic lights, resulting in multiple near-miss accidents.
Some of the protesting students called on authorities to act swiftly to prevent further casualties.
“Our security man has died because there’s no traffic light here. We call on the government to swiftly intervene.”
