Great Ampong Releases ‘Apology’ Song, Seeks Forgiveness for Controversial 2024 Campaign Lyrics

Ghanaian gospel musician Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, popularly known as Great Ampong, has released a new song titled ‘Apology,’ addressing recent controversies surrounding his previous musical works. This release comes in the wake of debates over his earlier campaign song, ‘Emmoa Asem Nkoaa,’ which some interpreted as containing indecent lines directed at former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 election campaign.

In ‘Apology,’ Great Ampong seeks forgiveness from Ghanaians for any offense his prior songs may have caused. He emphasizes that his intention was never to insult or demean any individual or political party. This gesture reflects his commitment to promoting unity and understanding through his music.

Previously, in November 2024, Great Ampong defended ‘Emmoa Asem Nkoaa,’ stating that it was not an insult to the former president or NDC members. He explained that the song’s message was a reflection of the former president’s campaign narratives, particularly focusing on themes related to food and daily sustenance. In an interview, he mentioned, “The message behind my song ‘Emmoa Asem Nkoaa’ is not an insult… I’m trying to say that anything that the former president says is about food and animals.”

Great Ampong’s musical journey has often intersected with political discourse. Despite his open support for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), he has consistently maintained that his artistic expressions are not intended to disparage others. In April 2024, he addressed rumors about receiving financial incentives to produce campaign songs, clarifying that he had not been approached or compensated by any political party for such endeavors.

Beyond the political sphere, Great Ampong has demonstrated a commitment to personal growth and reconciliation. In June 2024, he was ordained as a reverend minister at Divine Word Ministries International in the USA. As part of this spiritual milestone, he publicly sought forgiveness from highlife legend Daddy Lumba, addressing a longstanding feud between them. He stated, “If I went below the belt and said something that offended him—I pray that God forgives me and forgives him as well.”

The release of ‘Apology’ signifies Great Ampong’s ongoing dedication to using his platform for healing and unity. By acknowledging past controversies and seeking amends, he exemplifies the power of humility and the importance of fostering harmony through art.
