Outspoken journalist and host of With All Due Respect on Loud Silence TV, Kevin Taylor, has criticized the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) over their planned nationwide strike. He has made it clear to them to resign and go home and they are unhappy with the appointment of Samuel Adom as the acting Director of Births and Deaths Registry.
CLOGSAG recently announced that its members would stop working to protest the government’s decision to keep Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry. The association argues that Mr. Botchway’s appointment goes against an earlier agreement to remove him. However, the government insists that his appointment is legal and should not be a cause for industrial action.
Reacting to the issue on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, 19th February, 2025, Kevin Taylor expressed strong disapproval of CLOGSAG’s decision, suggesting that members who are uncomfortable working under government appointees should simply resign.
“If you are a CLOGSAG member and you are not comfortable working with any appointee of the Government, you have the option to resign from your office. Working for the Government is not a must!” Taylor wrote.
In a follow-up comment, he added that if the reason for CLOGSAG’s objection is not related to their actual job or working conditions, then it is politically motivated. He further advised dissatisfied members to step down and allow unemployed individuals to take their positions.
His post has generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users agreeing with his stance, while others argue that civil servants have the right to demand accountability from the government.
Meanwhile, the government has called on CLOGSAG to reconsider the strike, warning that it could negatively affect public services. However, CLOGSAG remains firm in its decision, saying the government must fulfill its earlier promise.
