Some members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) in the Northern Region and other parts of the country have proceeded with the strike declared by their leadership in protest against the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchwey as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
A visit to the Northern Regional Department of Births and Deaths on Thursday, February 20, found the office locked, leaving customers stranded.
Several applicants who had visited the registry for their certificates were unaware of the strike and had no choice but to return home.
Meanwhile, at the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD), some workers remained at post.
While some dismissed the strike as insignificant, CAGD staff noted that they were processing end-of-month payments and would join the strike afterward.
CLOGSAG is protesting what it describes as the political appointment of Samuel Adom Botchwey.
The association’s General Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, has called on the Presidency to revoke the appointment, citing a Supreme Court ruling that bars civil servants from active partisan politics.
