Honourable Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, presented the findings of the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative to President Mahama. Led by Ablakwa, the team has uncovered a significant scandal involving altered number plates on government V8 vehicles, which were being kept for personal use by certain officials from the previous administration. This discovery came after public tip-offs, which prompted the intervention of the National Security.
The swift recovery of all the affected vehicles, which were originally part of state property, marks a significant victory for the initiative. The total estimated value of the recovered vehicles and assets is $21.19 billion. In addition, an investigation into underpriced land deals in Accra could potentially bring in another $720 million if fair market value is paid by the buyers.
Ablakwa praised the efforts of Ghanaians who helped uncover this misconduct, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance in holding officials accountable. The Attorney General, alongside the President, will now determine further legal actions against the perpetrators.
