Former Presidential Staffer Justice Abeeku Newton-Offei has taken a swipe at the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of neglecting their core responsibilities in favour of accompanying Former Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia on his foreign engagements.
In a strongly worded statement shared on Facebook, Justice Abeeku Newton-Offei questioned why key NPP National officers, who should be defending the party’s interests at home, are instead prioritising overseas trips with Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia. According to him, these leaders have lost legitimacy and should all be replaced.
“You can trust the ndc on this: had Kissi Agyebeng done this with them in opposition, he would’ve come under a hail storm, with demand on him to quit. But NPP national officers are busily hanging around Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on his foreign trips; they’ve completely lost legitimacy and must all be swept away.”He wrote.
He stressed that the Former Vice President already has official staff who should be handling such engagements, while party executives must remain on the ground to defend the party against growing criticism, including allegations against the Special Prosector’s allegations against Ken Ofori-Atta.
“Dr Bawumia has office Staff and they must be accompanying him on official engagements. Also, we must be duly informed of his activities so we can keep track.” He added
Newton-Offei’s remarks also referenced the recent controversy surrounding a reported raid at former finance minister Ken Ofori Atta’s home. He accused the Special Prosector Kissi Agyebeng of spreading misinformation about the incident without retracting his claims when the truth emerged.
Looking ahead to the 2028 elections, Newton-Offei urged the NPP to elect independent-minded leaders who can build a strong political machinery instead of those who merely follow-follow the flagbearer.
