According to GhanaWeb, Rev. Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries International, has urged Ghanaians to consider ways to prolong President John Dramani Mahama’s time in office beyond the constitutional limits.
He believes that the current administration, led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), should be allowed to govern for a longer duration, citing their dedication to the nation’s progress and welfare.
During a sermon on February 16, 2025, Owusu-Bempah encouraged citizens to abstain from participating in the upcoming 2028 elections, advocating instead for Mahama to continue his leadership.
He proposed that if Mahama opts not to seek re-election, he should have the power to appoint a successor to lead the country.
He emphasized his views on Mahama, expressing admiration for his character. Owusu-Bempah stated that the president possesses a good heart and is genuinely a good person.
He expressed a desire for Mahama to extend his presidency beyond the typical four-year term.
Alternatively, if Mahama chooses not to run again, he should be permitted to select a successor without the necessity of elections.
“I wish that after his four years, he could add more years to his rule. Or, if he does not want to continue, he should be allowed to choose someone to lead the country without elections,” he stated.
Owusu-Bempah further remarked that the opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should remain in that role for an extended period.
He reiterated his stance that Ghanaians should collectively decide against voting during the next election, allowing the NDC to continue governing.
