Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin
The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has refuted claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that former President Akufo-Addo dismissed personnel recruited into office following the 2017 general election.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday, February 13, 2025, Afenyo-Markin clarified that all personnel hired by the John Dramani Mahama administration before leaving office retained their positions.
He emphasised that while the NPP government had initially planned to review the recruitment of personnel employed during the Mahama administration, no Ghanaian worker was laid off.
“There were serious behind-the-scenes discussions, and although the government had intended to scrutinise this recruitment, no Ghanaian worker was sent home… I say this on authority: no staff of the EPA, Health Insurance, and SSNIT were sent home.
“A lot of government agencies that had done recruitment explained that the process started before December 7. And John Dramani Mahama raised this matter. I remember that the Ghanaian youth went into training in the immigration service after December 7, as far as recruitment was concerned. Akufo-Addo was the one who presided over the parade in March, and the records are there to show,” he said.
Afenyo-Markin’s comments follow President John Dramani Mahama’s recent decision to reverse all recruitment in government agencies after he assumed office.
