Karpowership in discussions with government over $379 million debt

Karpowership Ghana has commenced negotiations with the government to settle its accumulated debt of $379 million.

The company indicated that it has been in discussions with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to address its outstanding financial obligations.

Karpowership has warned that it will suspend electricity supply if negotiations with the government are unsuccessful.

Sandra Amarquaye, Communications Manager for Karpowership Ghana, shared details of the negotiations during an interview with Citi Business.

“We had a meeting with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to bring the issue to their attention. We’re currently negotiating with the government for a sustainable solution to the debt accrued over time,” she noted.

Isaac Agyei Kwakye, Public Relations Officer of the Energy Ministry, assured the public that the government will do its best to resolve the issue and avoid power cuts.

“As a ministry, we’ll do everything in our power to ensure a resolution. Although it’s a burden, we need to find solutions, and that’s exactly what the ministry is determined to do,” he said.
