Franklin Cudjoe Blasts NPP Government: This is Not the Rule of Law—It’s the Rule of Bigotry

IMANI Africa President, Franklin Cudjoe, has strongly criticized the past government’s handling of corruption allegations against political opponents, calling it a sham designed to deceive the public.
In a fiery Facebook post, he stated: “It is unconscionable to come up with serious charges of mismanagement and embezzlement of state funds against your political opponents and spend eight years pretending to prove the charges by renting wretched and reckless witnesses and judges and unable to conclude a single case! This is not the rule of law—it is the rule of bigotry!”
Cudjoe’s comments reflect growing concerns among Ghanaians about how successive governments have weaponized corruption accusations for political gain, rather than genuinely seeking justice. Over the past eight years, numerous high-profile cases have been initiated against members of the opposition, yet very few—if any—have been successfully prosecuted. Instead, these cases drag on indefinitely, only to fizzle out when a new administration takes over.
Critics argue that these prolonged legal battles are nothing more than political theater, meant to tarnish the reputations of rivals while distracting the public from the government’s own failings. Cudjoe’s assertion that “wretched and reckless witnesses and judges” are being used suggests a deeper problem within Ghana’s judicial system—one that allows politically motivated cases to thrive, often without evidence strong enough to secure convictions.
His statement challenges the credibility of institutions that are supposed to uphold justice and the rule of law. If Ghana is to make any real progress in tackling corruption, many believe that cases should be pursued based on solid evidence rather than partisan interests. Until then, Cudjoe’s warning stands: Ghana risks becoming a nation where “the rule of bigotry” overshadows the true rule of law.
