Volta Region elects Tanko Kwamigah Atokple as Council of State Member

Ho (V/R), Feb. 11, GNA – Delegates in the Volta Region have elected Mr. Gabriel Adovoe Kwabla Tanko Kwamigah Atokple, a businessman, as their representative on the Council of State.

In an election held on Tuesday, in Ho, the regional capital, Mr Atokple secured 24 votes out of 35 total valid votes with 1 rejected vote, emerging victorious against 12 other contenders.

The Presiding Officer, Ms Ernestina Owusu-Banahene, who is also the Vice Chairperson of the Volta Regional Electoral Commission, officially declared Mr. Atokple as the winner with 24 votes.

Other candidates received the following votes: Azi Ganyo – 5 votes, Dr. Wuaku David Kofi – 4 votes and Felix Lartey – 2 votes.

Gibrilla Buhari, Mr Worlali Kwabla Ameevor, Torgbuiga Adama III, Torgbui Kpemini Gawu, Havi Delali Justice, Kirchuff Atengble, Godwin Yayra Nkuawu, Godisgood Amgashie, and Rev. Cephas Kwadzo Dzidzienyo – zero votes

Following his victory, Mr Atokple expressed his gratitude to the delegates and reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the region’s development at the national level.

He highlighted the Volta Region’s economic potential, stating that it possesses about 60 per cent of Ghana’s natural resources and pledged to leverage this for regional growth.

“I’ve always said that the Volta Region holds 60 per cent of Ghana’s resources. I will use this leverage to partner with donor agencies and investors to drive development and create opportunities for our people.”

As a youthful leader, Mr. Atokple emphasised his dedication to engaging young people in government policies and ensuring their voices are heard.

“I want to make a difference in the lives of the youth. Their involvement in governance is key to shaping a better future for our region.”

Mr Atokple assured the delegates and the people of Volta that his leadership would be inclusive, transparent, and people centered.

He pledged to work with all stakeholders, including traditional authorities, district assemblies, and youth organisations, to foster development.

He promised to be accessible and available to the people of Volta, encouraging them to invite him to their local events and engagements.

“This victory is not mine alone. It is for the Volta Region. I am ready to serve, and I encourage every one of you to involve me in initiatives that promote regional progress.”

With his election, Mr Tanko Kwamigah Atokple now joins the Council of State, where he will serve as an advisor to the President of Ghana, representing the interests of the Volta Region at the highest level of governance.
