Political tensions in Ghana are escalating as Mahmud Kabore has publicly challenged former Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Samuel Abu Jinapor, to demonstrate that he did not make the controversial remark referring to Dr. Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings as the “daughter of a murderer.”
During an appearance on Oyerepa TV, Kabore asserted that Jinapor should take accountability for his words and offer an apology. He claimed that the voice in the viral audio clip making the statement unmistakably belongs to Jinapor.
“Even though everyone is pretending they don’t know, if I were Jinapor, I would have come out to apologize. We know his voice, and he was the one who said it. If he believes it’s not him, he should come, and let’s go swear with the gods. We will seek permission from Otumfuo to allow us to swear on it,” Kabore stated emphatically.
Kabore’s firm position follows the outrage sparked by the alleged comments, particularly among supporters of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Korle Klottey and daughter of Ghana’s former President Jerry John Rawlings. Many view such a remark as not only offensive but also politically insensitive.
In addition to the comment about Dr. Zanetor, Kabore accused Jinapor of making other inappropriate remarks on the same day. He alleged that Jinapor falsely claimed that NDC MP Sam George was watching explicit content on his phone while Parliament was in session.
Kabore emphasized that, as someone from a royal background, Jinapor should behave honorably. He urged him to either come forward and acknowledge his words or take the necessary steps to prove his innocence.
The controversy surrounding these statements has ignited further political debate, with many calling for greater accountability in political discourse. It remains to be seen whether Jinapor will respond to these allegations.
