I’ll prioritise job creation, employment

Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has outlined his key priorities, emphasising job creation and labour sector reforms to address unemployment.

During his first engagement with staff and management on Tuesday, February 11, after officially assuming office, he stressed the need for comprehensive reforms to enhance job opportunities and improve labour market efficiency.

He called for greater collaboration among stakeholders to drive sustainable employment growth and ensure a more responsive labour sector.

Pelpuo also expressed optimism that ongoing National Tripartite Committee negotiations would achieve a fair balance in addressing wage concerns and labour conditions.

He urged staff to contribute their expertise in fulfilling the government’s mandate while maintaining neutrality and professionalism in their work.

“My priorities for the sector will include promoting job creation, employment and opportunities. Government will work tirelessly to reduce unemployment and employment by supporting initiatives that create decent jobs, especially for the youth, women and vulnerable groups.

“We will collaborate with the private sector, educational institutions and development partners to enhance skill training, entrepreneurship and labour market access.

“Our government is working to ensure that every worker deserves dignity, fair treatment and protection. The labour bill and the procreational and health bill will be worked on to improve workplace safety and improve and strengthen social protection coverage for all workers.
