The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations-designate, Sam George, has stated that his nomination has clearly caused significant distress to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He accused the NPP of resorting to deception, fabricating lies, and distributing fake photos to mislead the public after failing to block his approval in Parliament.

His comments come in response to a doctored picture that went viral on social media, falsely depicting him watching pornographic material.

During the parliamentary debate on the Appointments Committee’s report on the vetting of ministerial nominees, on February 4, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Damongo referenced the image and cautioned Sam George to be mindful of the content he views, particularly when serious business is ongoing in Parliament.

However, upon realizing that the image was fake, the MP retracted his statement and apologized to the outspoken ministerial nominee.

Sam George, known for his forthright nature, took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to call out the NPP.

“It is clear to me that the NPP is so hurt by my nomination as Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations that they will stop at nothing to fight it.

“After failing to mobilize their own caucus in Parliament to vote against my nomination, they have resorted to a smear campaign and cheap lies with fake photos,” he wrote.

Sam George condemned the spread of misinformation and fabricated lies, adding that such practices would soon be curbed in the country.

“I can assure them that the days of misinformation and cheap fabricated lies are coming to an end. The Ministry will tighten regulations on such illegal acts of misinformation and disinformation in the coming weeks to sanitize our media space,” he declared.
