James Gunu, Volta Regional minister
James Gunu, Volta Regional minister has called on the media particularly those in the region to proudly flaunt its credentials prominently to the outside world.
He said the region was now positioned to develop massively in sectors including agribusiness, manufacturing and tourism and there was the need for media which he deemed “partners in development” to support.
Gunu, said this when he interacted with the regional executives and some members of the Volta/Oti Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Ho.
The Regional Minister, who is a veteran media practitioner and a member of the GJA was grateful for the solidarity he had received from the people since his nomination through to his approval and pledged his commitment to meet the expectations of the people of the region.
He pledged to work together with the media throughout his administration.
“I see the GJA as key to the success of my administration. I want to give you that assurance that we’re going to work together to meet the expectations of our people. We made several promises to our people based on which they gave us the mandate.
Volta Region is now positioned to develop massively in the road sector, in the education sector, tourism and creative arts, agriculture and agribusiness, health, etc. And I am going to lead the charge in the region. I need your support. I need your cooperation because we are in this together and I believe we shall succeed together.”
Gunu noted that he would involve other key stakeholders like the traditional authorities, Members of Parliament, and Municipal and District Chief Executives in his administration as they were crucial in achieving the people’s expectations.
He hinted that he had no intention of relaxing when the people of the region had issues, mentioning the water crisis in the capital and noted that he would employ every available opportunity to tackle the issue as “water is life… water is religion.”
“So, I am just appealing to you, colleagues to help in your reportage. Let us sell Volta Region to the outside world so that investors will come in…,” Mr Gunu called.
Emmanuel Agbaxode, Regional Chairman Volta/Oti-GJA on behalf of members, congratulated the Regional Minister on his new role and assured him of the Association’s support and cooperation for his work for the common good of the region and the country.
Mawutor Agbavitor, Volta Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress said with Gunu’s energy in addition to the fact that “Volta is at the heart of President John Dramani Mahama,” it could only get better for the region.
