Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has accused the clerk of exhibiting partisan behavior
In a moment of fury and outrage, the Ranking Member of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, launched a scathing attack on the Clerk of the Appointments Committee, before the vetting proceedings began.
The leader of the Minority side of the committee expressed his strong displeasure, accusing the clerk of exhibiting bias and taking actions that appeared to favor the Majority side – the National Democratic Congress.
“You this clerk, when we were in power [as the Majority], you insisted that until you get the Minority, you won’t call a meeting. You didn’t even notify us because you are doing your party’s bidding,” he fumed.
According to him, the clerk deliberately failed to notify his side of the committee when the proceedings began, condemning her of engaging in such behavior as a civil servant.
Afenyo-Markin attributed the actions of the Clerk to the Appointments Committee as an attempt to undermine the integrity and authority of Parliament, warning that he would take action if the clerk continued such behavior.
“You this clerk, is that the way a civil servant should behave? It’s a shame on you. You this clerk, if you want to destroy Parliament, we won’t spare you,” he fumed.
He added, “… you this partisan clerk, when I was the Majority Leader, you insisted for the presence of the Minority but today, you call for a meeting without us. You think we are going to be quiet? Shame on you.”
The committee sitting for Friday commenced with the vetting of the Minister of Health-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
However, the Minority, led by their leader, walked in to protest what they said was a deliberate attempt by the clerk to the committee to sideline their caucus. They also accused the clerk of being partisan.
The Minority after registering their displeasure finally agreed to continue with the process and engage the Minority leadership to iron out the issues.
