Dr. Stephen Kwabena Opuni, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), has expressed gratitude to God following the withdrawal of a protracted legal case against him.
On January 28, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, officially withdrew all charges against Dr. Opuni and businessman Seidu Agongo.
Responding to the withdrawal, Opuni said, “I will add that the living God I serve has disgraced, cursed all my enemies, my persecutors and destiny haters.”
State Attorney Enam Loh Mensah informed the court that the Attorney-General had instructed the withdrawal of all charges, leading to the filing of a formal notice to that effect.
Dr. Opuni and Seidu Agongo had faced 27 counts, including defrauding by false pretenses, willfully causing financial loss to the state, money laundering, and corruption by a public officer.
The trial, which began in 2018, centered on allegations of procuring substandard fertilizers for COCOBOD, purportedly resulting in financial losses to the state.
