President John Mahama is on course in keeping to his campaign promise of setting up his government within fourteen days of assumption of office. John Mahama was sworn into office on January 7, 2025. Soon afterwards, the president was to hit the ground running. He proceeded to appoint key ministers of his government notably Finance, Education, and Agriculture ministers to man key sectors of the economy. Guided by the president’s own assurance to run his second term government with sixty (60) ministers, John Mahama aims at assembling the best materials for his government.
So far minister nominees designate have appeared  before parliament’s appointment committee to be confirmed. The performance and conduct of the appointment committee has not been without public scrutiny.
From academia to social commentators, people have descended heavily on the committee for not living up to expectation regarding their handling of some of the nominees. It is against this backdrop of high public expectation that the appointments committee resumes work this morning after a day’s break.
On the list to appear before the committee are Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for foreign affairs ministry, he is the vociferous Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency. Presently, he is the chairman for the ORAL TEAM. ORAL is an acronym for Operation Recover All Loot. Okudzeto is admired by most Ghanaians for his principles and honesty. Others that will appear before the committee include Sam Nartey George, the outspoken Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament. He is billed for the communications Ministry. Murtala Mohammed who is the Member of Parliament for Tamale central will also have his turn to mee t the appointments committee. He brings wealth of knowledge into the Science and Environment Ministry where he has been nominated to oversee.
Rashid Pelpuo, Minister Designate for the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment Kofi Adams, Minister Designate for the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Joseph Nikpe, Minister Designate for the Ministry of Transport, Issifu Seidu, Mrs. Charity Gardiner, Minister Designate for the Ahafo Region, Issifu Seidu, Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability will also face the appointment committee.
