There is a strong political fight going on in Parliament as the Minority strongly rejects Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah’s appointment as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
They are upset because he won’t take back or say sorry for what he said about former President Akufo-Addo’s last State of the Nation Address on January 3, 2025. During his review, Armah-Kofi Buah said that his words, which some found rude and unsuitable, were not meant to offend the former President. He said that they showed the political situation of that time.
Even with increasing pressure from the minority group, he stayed strong and did not take back what he said or apologise. The Minority says that his position is not acceptable. They argue that these comments disrespect the role of the President and could lead to more problems in the future.
They have promised to oppose his election, saying that people in important positions should act respectfully and properly, no matter their political beliefs. The Appointments Committee majority has suggested approving him, which has increased the political conflict.
This issue is likely to cause intense discussions in Parliament, with the Minority opposing it and the Majority supporting the approval. Both sides are firm in their positions, making the next few days important for deciding if Armah-Kofi Buah will get the minister job, despite the issues with his nomination.
