Israeli Ambassador to Ghana honors International Holocaust Remembrance Day

The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Roey Gilad, has expressed his hope for the safe release of 90 individuals still held captive in Gaza during a ceremony marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

According to him, “the speedy and safe release of our remaining 90 brothers and sisters still held captive in”Gaza”—till they return, the tragedy is not over.

“The resolution reaffirmed that the Holocaust, which resulted in the murder of one-third of the Jewish people, along with countless members of other minorities, will forever be a warning to all people of the dangers of hatred, bigotry, racism, and prejudice.”

This solemn occasion saw the lighting of six candles at the Israeli Embassy, each representing the 6 million Jewish lives lost during the Holocaust.

“It leaves us with this great responsibility to meet this challenge by telling their story, fighting the denial of the Holocaust, fighting antisemitism, which is on the rise again, and making sure that this atrocity that happened only 80 years ago will never happen again.”

The event served as a powerful reminder of the atrocities of the past and emphasised the significance of remembrance and education in ensuring such tragedies are not repeated.

“However, Israel was, is, and will be a very strong state. A state that will overcome all the very many challenges that are facing us as a nation. And at the end of this crisis, we shall be stronger than we were when it all started,” he said.

The ambassador’s remarks also highlighted the ongoing humanitarian concerns and the importance of dialogue and efforts toward peace in the region.
