Plan International Ghana donates furniture to 10 schools at West Mamprusi

By Albert Futukpor

Tinguri (NE/R), Jan. 25, GNA – Plan International Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has donated some furniture to 10 basic schools in the West Mamprusi Municipality, to improve teaching and learning at the pre-school levels.

The furniture comprised 176 round tables and 704 chairs (four chairs for each round table) and they were distributed to beneficiary schools to ensure that children at the pre-school level sit comfortably in class.

The schools were the Diani Presby Kindergarten (KG), Tinguri Pope John RC KG ‘A’, Tinguri Pope John RC KG ‘B’, Zanguwa M/A KG, Gbani RC KG, Minima M/A KG, Boayini M/A KG, Guabliga RC KG, Manga M/A KG and Saadugu RC KG.

Mr Kamaldeen Iddrisu Yazeed, the Northern Regional Programme Coordinator, Plan International Ghana, who led a team from the organisation accompanied by officials from the West Mamprusi Municipal Directorate of Education in the North East Region, to distribute the furniture to the schools, said the gesture was to address some of the challenges facing pre-school learners in the area.

He said, “From our interactions with teachers and officials from the West Mamprusi Municipal Directorate of Education, we learnt that there was inadequate age-appropriate furniture for children at the KG levels who currently use the dual desks, leaving their legs hanging, making it very uncomfortable for them to focus on their lessons.”

He said in view of the situation, Plan International Ghana, as part of its financial year 2025, budgeted for the procurement of age-appropriate furniture for the schools to help address the situation.

Mr Yazeed urged the beneficiaries to take good care of the furniture, to ensure that it continued to serve them for a long time.

He also appealed to the government to increase budgetary allocation to the pre-school sector to address some of its challenges and support quality teaching and learning.

Mr Zakari Abumbe, the Public Relations Officer, West Mamprusi Municipal Directorate of Education, who represented the Municipal Director of Education, expressed gratitude to Plan International Ghana for the gesture saying it demonstrated the organisation’s commitment towards ensuring quality education in the area.
