Ghana is currently battling a cholera outbreak that began in October 2024, with the first case reported in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a statement from the Ghana Health Service issued on December 25, 2024, the outbreak later spread to the Central, Eastern, Western, and Ashanti regions.

Although the Eastern Region had no active cases at the time, the Western Region was the hardest hit, accounting for 17 of the 35 recorded deaths.

As of December 2024, a total of 4,155 suspected cholera cases had been reported nationwide.

In response, a vaccination campaign was launched between November 30 and December 19, targeting hotspot districts.

The campaign successfully vaccinated 662,906 people, resulting in a noticeable decline in new cases.

The Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service activated emergency response measures, including public education, case management, and water safety assessments.

The public has also been urged to practice proper hygiene, consume safe water, and report any symptoms.
