Mahama carefully selecting his ministers to ensure he leaves a lasting legacy

Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has stated that President John Dramani Mahama has been faced with an arduous task of resetting the country, hence the careful selection of his ministers and other appointees.

Speaking on JoyNews on Saturday, January 25, 2025, he acknowledged the constraints the president faces both from his limited time in government and his self-imposed limit on the number of ministers he intends to work with.

“He knows he has four years. So, he’s choosing his ministers carefully, working within the constraints of the constitution, dealing with huge numbers in Parliament, trying to recruit the best from parliament who align with his values and his desire to leave a lasting legacy for this country. There is an invidious responsibility placed on him not to joke with his appointments,” he stated.

Inusah Fuseini said while some may be disappointed with his ‘picks’, the president is focused on the larger goal of national progress.

“Some have been waiting, thinking that the president would get them into offices. Some have been greatly disappointed because of their contribution to the success of the president,” he stated.

He added, “But you are looking at the president who is acutely aware that he cannot fail the people of this country, that he cannot think below the depths that the NPP sank. That in electing to reset the country, he was communicating to the people that he will do better and put the country on a sound pedestal. So, recruitment to carry out this mandate, recruitment for this vision will be tough, will be disappointing to some people and will have to depart from his earlier ways of doing things.”
