Member of Parliament (MP) for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has called for the establishment of permanent constituency offices to enhance MPs’ engagement with their constituents.
In an address to Parliament, Mr Opoku highlighted the challenges posed by the absence of structured platforms for regular interaction between MPs and the communities they represent.
“Constituency offices will serve as a central point for MPs to address the concerns of their constituents, communicate their achievements, and foster stronger relationships with the people they represent,” Mr. Opoku said.
He emphasised that such a move would lead to better service delivery and improved communication between lawmakers and the public.
The MP for Mpraeso also advocated for the revival of plans to construct permanent constituency offices across the country.
He suggested interim measures to address the immediate need, such as leasing private office spaces or utilising facilities within Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
Mr. Opoku further stressed the importance of ensuring that these offices are adequately equipped with the necessary logistical support and professional staff to facilitate smooth operations.
This, he argued, would improve the efficiency of MPs in responding to the needs of their communities.
By implementing permanent constituency offices, MPs would be able to focus more on their legislative responsibilities, reducing the unrealistic expectations placed on them to deliver development projects, which are often outside their mandate.
Mr. Opoku concluded that this initiative would be a vital step in improving parliamentary effectiveness and maintaining strong ties with constituents.
