Fans boo Novak Djokovic after retiring from Australian Open due to injury

Fans booed tennis legend Novak Djokovic after he pulled out of the Australian Open during a semi-final clash against Alexander Zverev.

After suffering a muscle tear following the first set, the Serbian withdrew, handing Zverev a walkover win.

The 10-time Australian Open champion hinted that this might be his last tournament in Melbourne.

“I didn’t hit any ball from Alcaraz until an hour before today’s match. I did everything I could to manage my muscle tear. But towards the end of the set, I felt more and more pain. It was too much in the end. I tried. My last Australian open? I don’t know. It’s possible,” he said.

He was booed after hinting at his retirement from the Australian Open, as fans expressed their displeasure.

Zverev, during his on-court interview, condemned the fans’ actions, emphasizing how consistent Djokovic has been over the past two decades.

“Please, guys, don’t boo a player when he goes out with an injury. I know everyone paid for tickets… but Novak has given everything of his life to the sport for the last 20 years.”

Following the walkover win, Alexander Zverev will face Italian player Jannik Sinner on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
