Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has made a startling revelation, accusing certain executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of selling Senior High School (SHS) placement slots for as much as GH¢5,000.
Speaking in a recent interview, the former legislator expressed deep concern over what he described as a growing culture of corruption within the party, as reported by Ghanaweb.
He alleged that some party executives took undue advantage of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to extort money from desperate parents seeking to secure placement for their wards in preferred schools.
“Some NPP executives were charging GH¢5,000 per slot for SHS placements. This practice is shameful and undermines the integrity of the Free SHS policy,” Boakye Antwi stated.
He emphasized that such acts tarnish the party’s reputation and erode public trust in its commitment to transparency and good governance.
The former MP called on the party leadership to investigate these allegations thoroughly and bring culpable individuals to justice.
He also urged the government to strengthen the CSSPS to eliminate opportunities for exploitation.
These allegations come amid ongoing criticisms of the Free SHS policy’s implementation and highlight broader concerns over corruption in Ghana’s education system.
The NPP is yet to officially respond to these claims.
