{"id":273399,"date":"2024-12-31T14:19:28","date_gmt":"2024-12-31T14:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/31\/22-of-banks-in-ghana-fail-to-meet-car-threshold-of-13-report\/"},"modified":"2024-12-31T14:19:28","modified_gmt":"2024-12-31T14:19:28","slug":"22-of-banks-in-ghana-fail-to-meet-car-threshold-of-13-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/31\/22-of-banks-in-ghana-fail-to-meet-car-threshold-of-13-report\/","title":{"rendered":"22% of banks in Ghana fail to meet CAR threshold of 13% &#8211; Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><p>Ernest Addison, Bank of Ghana Governor.<\/p><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About 22% of banks operating in Ghana have failed to meet the the 13.0% Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to IC Insights, these banks would require continuous adherence to recapitalisation plan, enforcement of strict credit risk standards, and continued profitability to restore capital buffers to pre-Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joy Business understands that majority of these banks are indigenous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IC Insights however stated that the banking sector is making good progress on capital restoration as head into the final year of regulatory relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe disaggregated data on the banking sector\u2019s solvency position showed steady improvement in the industry\u2019s capital adequacy ratio as CAR (with regulatory relief) stood at 14.3% in October 2024.
