{"id":272173,"date":"2024-12-28T22:42:20","date_gmt":"2024-12-28T22:42:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/28\/ghana-fail-to-qualify-after-nigeria-defeat\/"},"modified":"2024-12-28T22:42:20","modified_gmt":"2024-12-28T22:42:20","slug":"ghana-fail-to-qualify-after-nigeria-defeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/28\/ghana-fail-to-qualify-after-nigeria-defeat\/","title":{"rendered":"Ghana fail to qualify after Nigeria defeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Ghana\u2019s Black Galaxies failed to book a spot in the upcoming 2025 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Nigeria on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following Sunday\u2019s first leg draw in Ghana, there was a lot at stake as both sides battled for a ticket to the CHAN tournament.<\/p>\n<p>However, it was the home side who shot themselves ahead after 19 minutes: a long ball over Ghana\u2019s defence sent forward Ismaila Sodiq through on goal before he raced clear of Ghana\u2019s backline to strike the ball past Ghana\u2019s goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare.<\/p>\n<p>Three minutes later, Nigeria doubled their lead as a goalmouth scramble saw Super Eagles B captain Nduka Junior prod home from close range to put Nigeria two-up.<\/p>\n<p>The three minutes goal action sequence continued as Savior found Nigeria\u2019s third after dispossessing Ghana\u2019s Nurudeen Abdulai before rolling the ball into a gaping goal after rounding Benjamin Asare.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria\u2018s three goals in nine minutes put them in a comfortable position as they headed into the break with an unassailable advantage.<\/p>\n<p>The second half was pretty much \u2018keep ball\u2019 for the home side who just knocked the ball around to while away time.<\/p>\n<p>However, Berekum Chelsea forward Stephen Amankona injected some life into the game as he pulled a goal back for Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The forward\u2019s strike, 17 minutes from time, proved to be a mere consolidation as the damage had already been inflected in the first half.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria will now participate in the 2025 CHAN tournament, which will be co-hosted in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in February, while Ghana failed  to build on its quarter-finals finish from the last edition.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div data-ad-id=\"416073\" style=\"text-align:center; margin-top:px; margin-bottom:px; margin-left:px; margin-right:px;float:none;\" class=\"afw afw_custom  afw_ad afwadid-416073  \">\n<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"416038\" class=\"elementor elementor-416038\" data-elementor-post-type=\"rb-etemplate\">\n<aside class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8ce16df e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"8ce16df\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{\" background_background=\"\">\n<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bdeffa7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bdeffa7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n<p><strong>Your feedback is crucial.<\/strong> Tell us what you loved and where we can do better.
