Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore<\/strong><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
A power struggle has emerged within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over appointments in the incoming John Mahama administration.<\/p>\n
The controversy began when the Greater Accra Regional Secretary, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, issued a letter calling for constituency chairmen and secretaries to submit nominees for various national positions including ministerial and ambassadorial appointments.<\/p>\n
The letter, dated December 25, 2024, requested that the nominees be submitted with their highest level of qualification, contact information, and area of interest for appointments.<\/p>\n
The deadline for submission was set for Monday, December 30, 2024, by close of work at the Regional Secretariat.<\/p>\n
However, the Regional Chairman, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has rejected the letter, stating that it was issued without consultation or approval from the regional executives committee.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Ashie Moore instructed party members to disregard the letter, stating that it was a sole decision made by the Regional Secretary without following the proper party structures.<\/p>\n
The nomination process is for key positions, including ministerial, deputy ministerial, ambassadorial, CEO, director, Council of State, and board member roles.<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s leadership had sought to assemble a team of qualified individuals to fill these positions as they prepared to take power with John Dramani Mahama\u2019s inauguration as president on January 7, 2025.<\/p>\n
The infighting has thrown the nomination process into disarray, leaving constituency chairmen and secretaries unsure of how to proceed.<\/p>\n
However, the development has exposed underlying tensions within the party, highlighting the challenges that the NDC faces as it prepares to take the reins of power.<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s ability to manage its internal conflicts and present a united front will be crucial in the coming days and weeks.<\/p>\n
