{"id":271228,"date":"2024-12-27T06:23:09","date_gmt":"2024-12-27T06:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/27\/my-team-was-against-conceding-early-in-elections-bawumia\/"},"modified":"2024-12-27T06:23:09","modified_gmt":"2024-12-27T06:23:09","slug":"my-team-was-against-conceding-early-in-elections-bawumia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/27\/my-team-was-against-conceding-early-in-elections-bawumia\/","title":{"rendered":"My team was against conceding early in elections \u2013 Bawumia"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has revealed that his campaign team opposed his decision to concede defeat in the 7 December election.<gwmw style=\"display:none;\"\/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite their reservations, Dr Bawumia chose to acknowledge the outcome early to uphold the peace and stability of the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Bawumia announced his concession on December 8, mere hours after the counting of votes had commenced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His decision came before the Electoral Commission officially declared the results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On December 9, the Commission announced John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the election, securing 6,328,397 votes, which accounted for 56.55% of the valid votes cast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addressing a gathering of party supporters at his residence on Thursday, 26 December, Dr Bawumia elaborated on his choice to concede promptly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He emphasised that the decision was guided by his commitment to safeguarding Ghana\u2019s democratic principles and ensuring the country remained peaceful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe stability of Ghana must always come first,\u201d he stated, underscoring his dedication to the nation&#8217;s greater good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NPP flagbearer also thanked his supporters for their unwavering dedication throughout the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He urged them to remain steadfast in their belief in the party\u2019s ideals and to continue working towards a stronger and more united Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo, even though the Electoral Commission had not yet pronounced [the winner], in fact, some of my people in my team were saying, you can\u2019t go out to concede, we don\u2019t know if all this data is right, let\u2019s wait.
