A member of the Communication Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Beatrice Annan, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly appointing some of its foot soldiers as judges, a move she described as a disservice to Ghana\u2019s judiciary.<\/p>\n During a recent panel discussion, Beatrice Annan accused the NPP of undermining the integrity of the judicial system by prioritizing partisan interests over merit.<\/p>\n She cited Justice Ernest Yao Gaewu as an example, claiming that he was appointed as a Justice of the High Court due to his affiliations with the NPP rather than his qualifications. She characterized the appointment as \u201clow\u201d and emblematic of the ruling party\u2019s alleged disregard for judicial impartiality.<\/p>\n \u201cJudicial power is not political power to be wielded for the benefit of your party,\u201d Annan remarked. \u201cIt is not a tool to reward girlfriends, side chics, or party loyalists.<\/p>\n Judicial power is derived from the people, and because all of us cannot sit in the courtroom, we entrust it to individuals whom we believe will be objective or at least reasonably so.
