Accra, Dec 25, GNA \u2013 A trader who allegedly\u202fcollected GHC1,096,500 from 46 people under the pretext of securing them employment in Ghana Security Service but failed has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Joseph Agemba alleged National Security Operative at the Jubilee House is said to have also collected money from two more persons under the pretext of securing them USA and German visas but failed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Agemba also took extra money from the complainant, Patience Solomon, to secure her an auctioned car but failed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Charged with seven counts of defrauding by false pretences,\u202f the court did not take his plea.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This is because\u202fprosecution led by Chief Jonas Lawer\u202fwho held brief for Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Richard Amoah said more victims were lodging complaints at the Police Station.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Prosecution therefore prayed that the accused be remanded into police custody.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The court presided over by Mr Isaac Addo held that looking at the nature of the accusations and to avert\u202faccused person\u2019 s interference\u202fin Police investigations, it remanded the accused into police custody to reappear on December 27, 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The prosecution case is that complainant Patience\u202fSolomon is an Immigration officer, and the accused is a trader.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n
Prosecution told the court that in the month of November 2023, the Complainant received informed from her husband that accused who is a senior brother to the accused an alleged national security operative and he works at the Jubilee House, and he has a protocol slot for people who are interested in working any of Ghana security agencies.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Prosecutor said the complainant contacted the accused and he confirmed that he could assist\u202fpeople secure recruitment into the various security agencies.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The accused therefore encouraged the complainant to bring for the enlistment at a fee ranging from GHC7,000 to GHC22,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Prosecution said the complainant also sold the idea of enlistment to other acquaintances and other individuals,\u00a0<\/p>\n
Those who also bought into the idea also paid various sums of money six mobile accounts\u202ffor the protocol enlistment,\u00a0<\/p>\n
Prosecution said in all a total of GHC 1,931,000 was collected from the 48\u202fpeople under the pretext of enlisting them into Ghana Police Service, Immigrations, Prisons, Armed Forces, and Ghana Revenue Authority.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The court heard that the accused also collected an additional\u202fGHC54 ,000 under the pretext of securing her an auctioned vehicle but failed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe also collected an amount of GHC87,00 from two people\u202fto secure Germany and USA visas but failed.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to the prosecution, the complainant became alarmed and reported it to the Police, and the accused was arrested.\u00a0<\/p>\n
