Some football fans on social media have chided the former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, for admonishing President-elect John Mahama to desist from scrapping the betting tax.<\/p>\n According to them, the academician\u2019s advice is misguided because the youth indulge in betting to gain income for survival due to the high rate of unemployment.<\/p>\n Others also fumed that there are more pressing challenges in the nation that need to be addressed, not betting, which helps people financially. <\/p>\n Some also called on Mahama to reject the advice and go ahead with the promise he made to scrap the tax if he wins the 2024 elections.<\/p>\n What Prof. Adei said that triggered the reactions<\/b><\/p>\n While condemning betting and tagging it as evil, Prof. Adei urged the incoming NDC government to increase the tax from 10% to 50%.<\/p>\n “Sin taxes like betting tax must be increased and not scrapped.
