{"id":269745,"date":"2024-12-23T09:49:10","date_gmt":"2024-12-23T09:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/23\/%c2%a225m-is-just-a-drop-in-the-ocean-waec-on-delayed-results\/"},"modified":"2024-12-23T09:49:10","modified_gmt":"2024-12-23T09:49:10","slug":"%c2%a225m-is-just-a-drop-in-the-ocean-waec-on-delayed-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/23\/%c2%a225m-is-just-a-drop-in-the-ocean-waec-on-delayed-results\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;\u00a225m is just a drop in the ocean&#8217; \u2013 WAEC on delayed results"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                       \n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has voiced disappointment over the GH\u00a225 million recently released by the government, describing it as insufficient to offset its GH\u00a2118 million debt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This financial shortfall continues to delay the release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, leaving students, parents, and schools in limbo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John Kapi, WAEC\u2019s Head of Public Relations, expressed concern about the inadequacy of the funds during a media briefing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the amount provided barely covers critical operational needs, including paying technicians to work on essential machinery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cObviously, that [the GH\u00a225 million] was just a drop in the ocean as far as the amount of money required for the job we are supposed to do is concerned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We indicated to the minister earlier that we owed our technicians GH\u00a225 million, which we had to pay before they even started to work on the machines. Besides, there are other operations that we have to do,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kapi further stressed that the released funds would be consumed entirely by outstanding payments to technicians, leaving no resources for other critical operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf we decide to invite the technicians today or even tomorrow, all they are going to ask for is the outstanding payment.
