{"id":269250,"date":"2024-12-22T07:08:09","date_gmt":"2024-12-22T07:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/22\/why-ec-has-suspended-the-re-collation-of-parliamentary-results-for-dome-kwabenya-okaikwei-north\/"},"modified":"2024-12-22T07:08:09","modified_gmt":"2024-12-22T07:08:09","slug":"why-ec-has-suspended-the-re-collation-of-parliamentary-results-for-dome-kwabenya-okaikwei-north","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/22\/why-ec-has-suspended-the-re-collation-of-parliamentary-results-for-dome-kwabenya-okaikwei-north\/","title":{"rendered":"Why EC has suspended the re-collation of parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei North"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanaweb.com\/imagelib\/pics\/204\/20453526.295.jpg\" alt=\"EC Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa\" title=\"EC Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa\" width=\"295\" height=\"197\" \/> <span class=\"image_caption\"><span>EC Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"-webkit-user-select: none; -webkit-touch-callout: none; -moz-user-select: none; -ms-user-select: none; user-select: none;\">\n<p id=\"article-123\">The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the suspension of the re-collation exercise for the parliamentary results in the Dome Kwabenya and Okaikwei North constituencies due to significant hurdles in the collation process.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, December 21, 2024, the Electoral Commission convened a collation exercise following a High Court ruling granting a mandamus to compel the commission to re-collate the results of nine constituencies declared after the December 7 election.<\/p>\n<p>Despite persistent objections by the National Democratic Congress, the EC on Saturday re-collated results for seven out of the nine constituencies. <\/p>\n<p><b>Dome Kwabenya<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The re-collation for Dome Kwabenya was thwarted by the absence of essential pink sheets from three polling stations. <\/p>\n<p>These documents, which are crucial for verifying votes, are only available in digital form, and there have been unsuccessful attempts to convert them back to hard copies. <\/p>\n<p>Both major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have failed to provide the missing physical records. <\/p>\n<p>The NPP has attributed this lack to violent disruptions during the initial collation, alleging that their agents were assaulted and critical documents were destroyed or seized amidst the chaos.<\/p>\n<p><b>Okaikwei North<\/b> <\/p>\n<p>In Okaikwei North, the situation is similarly chaotic with 31 out of 62 expected pink sheets unaccounted for. <\/p>\n<p>This significant shortfall has paralyzed the EC&#8217;s ability to proceed with the re-collation, as the results cannot be verified without these key documents.<\/p>\n<p><b>EC\u2019s next steps<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Given these complications, the EC has decided to pause the re-collation process in these constituencies. The commission&#8217;s senior management is scheduled to convene to discuss and decide on the next steps to address these electoral disputes.<\/p>\n<p><b>Seven Constituencies declared<\/b><\/p>\n<p>While Dome Kwabenya and Okaikwei North face these ongoing issues, the EC has managed to declare results in seven other constituencies following the High Court&#8217;s directive for re-collation in nine areas. All seven constituencies declared so far have resulted in wins for the NPP:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Obuasi East (Ashanti Region): Patrick Boakye-Yiadom retained his seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Nsawam-Adoagyiri (Eastern Region): Frank Annoh-Dompreh emerged victorious.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Tema Central (Greater Accra Region): Charles Forson narrowly won.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ahafo Ano South West: Elvis Osei Dapaah won.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ahafo Ano North (Ashanti Region): Nana Agyemang Prempeh was successful.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Okaikwei Central (Greater Accra Region): Patrick Yaw Boamah retained his seat.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Techiman South (Bono East Region): Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah was declared the winner.<\/p>\n<p><b>Composition of the next Parliament as the results stand<\/b><\/p>\n<p>With the declaration of seven out of the nine outstanding constituencies, the composition of the parliamentary results as declared by the Electoral Commission is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 NPP (New Patriotic Party): 89 seats<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 NDC (National Democratic Congress): 181 seats<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Independents: 4 seats<\/p>\n<p>This leaves 2 seats still pending from Dome Kwabenya and Ablekuma North, bringing the total number of seats declared to 274 out of 276 in the House.<\/p>\n<p>GA<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EC Chairperson, Jean Adukwei Mensa The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the suspension of the re-collation exercise for the parliamentary results in the Dome Kwabenya and Okaikwei North constituencies due to significant hurdles in the collation process.
