The New Patriotic Party (NPP) saw a sharp drop in voter turnout in the general elections of 2024, according to Nana Akomea, vice chairman of the Bawumia 2024 Campaign Team.<\/p>\n

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP received 4.6 million votes, while President-elect John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won a resounding win with nearly 6.3 million votes in the poll conducted on December 7.<\/p>\n

After defeating several NPP MPs, the NDC also gained a parliamentary majority.<\/p>\n

Approximately two million voters who supported the NPP in 2020 did not cast ballots in the 2024 elections, Akomea disclosed on Point Blank on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, December 16. He believes this was a contributing factor to the party’s loss.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat conclusion we can come to at this moment is to look at the results. The results clearly show that about two million people who voted for NPP in the 2020 elections did not vote for NPP in 2024. The NDC got about 6.2 something in 2020 and they got about 6.3, so it is reasonable to assume that their supporters turned up and they got a few more, maybe another 100,000 or so.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur votes reduced from 6.7 in 2020 to 4.6. Those two million people we don\u2019t find them anywhere. We don\u2019t find them voting for Mahama, we don\u2019t find them voting for Alan Kyerematen and so on. So it is fair to assume that they stayed away,\u201d Akomea stated in a report by citinewsroom.com.<\/p>\n

He emphasised the need for the NPP to investigate the reasons behind this voter apathy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we need to do is to find out the reason, some of the key reasons that made them stay away because they didn\u2019t even go to the polls to vote for the party,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
