{"id":266424,"date":"2024-12-16T15:59:41","date_gmt":"2024-12-16T15:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/16\/bawumia-had-no-choice-than-to-concede-defeat-before-official-declaration-basintale\/"},"modified":"2024-12-16T15:59:41","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T15:59:41","slug":"bawumia-had-no-choice-than-to-concede-defeat-before-official-declaration-basintale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2024\/12\/16\/bawumia-had-no-choice-than-to-concede-defeat-before-official-declaration-basintale\/","title":{"rendered":"Bawumia had no choice than to concede defeat before official declaration \u2013 Basintale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Deputy National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale, says the 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, had no choice but to concede defeat before the official result was declared.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Dr Bawumia was trailing by almost 2 million votes, and in light of this, he could not contest the outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on JoyNews\u2019 <strong>AM Show<\/strong>, on Monday, December 16, Basintale drew a comparison with the 2016 elections, when President-elect John Mahama considered conceding defeat at a time Ghana was facing significant tension.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cIn the 2024 elections, we didn\u2019t have those tensions, 2016 was a tough one, and let me confess, a lot of people told Mahama, \u2018Don\u2019t stroll in town.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cThe president-elect came out and said, \u2018I love Ghana, I will stroll in town, let peace prevail.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Basintale claimed that the NDC had delivered a decisive victory over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections, \u201cThis time, it was a disaster for the NPP,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"DTHC6A6f4LU\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Exclusive: NDC wins whenever elections are truly free &amp; fair - Basintale drops bold claims\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DTHC6A6f4LU?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>He noted that there was no reason for Dr Bawumia to expect a different result, as the outcome came quickly, particularly from the NDC\u2019s strongholds.
