Marvin David Ocloo has stepped down from his role as an assistant coach of Asante Kotoko just before the team’s highly anticipated Super Clash against Hearts of Oak, Ghanasportspage.com can exclusively reveal.

The Porcupine Warriors were preparing for their crucial match against their arch-rivals on Sunday, but Ocloo was notably absent from the coaching setup when the team took to the field.

While the reasons behind his resignation remain unclear, Ocloo’s departure marks the end of his tenure with the club, leaving Kotoko to face the high-stakes encounter without his influence.

The team now faces the task of regrouping and pushing forward as they aim for a strong finish in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.

Ocloo rejoined Kotoko ahead of the 2023/24 season, serving as an assistant to head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum. This marked his return after previously assisting the team in the 2021/22 season, during which Kotoko clinched the Ghana Premier League title.

Throughout his tenure, Ocloo contributed significantly to the team’s tactical setup and overall development. His resignation leaves a significant void in the team’s leadership structure, and it remains to be seen how Kotoko will respond to this unexpected departure.

On Sunday, despite the coaching shake-up, Asante Kotoko secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium, with Albert Amoah scoring a last-gasp goal.

The win has propelled Kotoko to 6th place with 21 points, and they will now look to build on that momentum in their upcoming Matchday 14 fixture against Dreams FC at the Tuba AstroTurf.
