Ghanaian actor and comedian Akonoba has responded to ongoing rumors about his sexual orientation, firmly denying claims that he is gay. In a recent interview, Akonoba clarified that his craft, often laced with humorous portrayals of effeminate characters, is purely for entertainment and financial gain, and should not be misconstrued as a reflection of his personal life.

“I am not gay, and no man has ever made advances at me,” he stated emphatically. “I love women, and anyone who knows me personally can attest to that. What I do is strictly acting—nothing more, nothing less.”

Akonoba, known for his versatility and unique comedic style, has often played roles that involve exaggerated feminine gestures and mannerisms, leading to widespread speculation about his sexual preferences. However, he emphasized that these roles are part of his artistry and should not define his identity.

The comedian further explained that his choice of roles is driven by his passion for entertaining audiences and earning a living in a competitive industry. “This is my craft, and I take pride in making people laugh. It’s unfortunate that some people misinterpret it, but my focus remains on my career,” he added.

Akonoba also used the opportunity to encourage Ghanaians to appreciate creativity without jumping to conclusions about an actor’s personal life. He urged fans to support his work and not let baseless rumors overshadow his contributions to the entertainment industry.

The clarification has since sparked a conversation about stereotypes in the entertainment industry and the challenges actors face when their on-screen personas are mistaken for their real-life identities.
