After former Member of Parliament Lydia Alhassan lost the 2024 parliamentary elections, a female student at the University of Ghana (UG) expressed worry that the free shuttle service on campus had been suspended. The student said in a TikTok video that after losing to John Dumelo, the service—which Alhassan had started in November 2024 to help pupils with transportation—was discontinued. The free shuttle service was created to help students with their transportation needs, especially during the hectic election season. But its sudden termination has sparked debates on social media, with many users wondering if political considerations influenced the decision to discontinue the service.

UG students are debating Alhassan’s setback, with some speculating that the shuttle service’s closure might be a politically driven move. The circumstance highlights the continuous difficulties students encounter in finding reasonably priced transportation on campus, a problem that has grown more pressing as the school year goes on. Given the significant demand for transportation choices among the university’s enormous population, the student body has expressed anger about the loss of a service that many considered advantageous. For many, the free shuttle had been a lifesaver, making it simpler to go to courses and other campus amenities.

Students are demanding openness about the cancellation’s justifications as the debate rages on. The episode raises concerns about how election results affect university programs and serves as a reminder of the complex interplay between politics and student services. Since the university administration has not yet responded, students are anxious to know if the shuttle service will be brought back or if other options will be considered to meet campus transportation demands. The resolution of this issue may have an impact on next student projects and the university’s dedication to serving the community’s needs.

This blog is managed by the content creator and not GhanaWeb, its affiliates, or employees.
