The founder and executive director of the Atta Mills Institute has reacted to the outcome of the 2024 general elections.<\/p>\n Koku Anyidoho believes the successful outcome of the elections has moved our democratic frontiers to a notch higher.<\/p>\n He commended Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his early concession ahead of the official declaration by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC).<\/p>\n He said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that the early concession by the vice president reminded him of the concession by President-elect John Dramani Mahama in 2016.<\/p>\n He congratulated the president-elect for winning the elections.<\/p>\n He indicated that Ghana should be the first in everything we do after the successful organisation of the elections.<\/p>\n He wrote \u201cGhana has moved our democratic frontiers notches higher. First????\u2764\ufe0f\u201d<\/p>\n Background<\/p>\n Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on December 8 conceded defeat and extended his congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama.<\/p>\n In an address to the media, he explained that the provisional election results collated by his team should have lost the race.<\/p>\n \u00a0\u201cI have spoken to President-elect John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him on his victory. The people of Ghana have spoken, and we must respect their decision,\u201d Dr. Bawumia stated.<\/p>\n On December 9, 2024, the Lectoral Commissioner, Jean Mensa, declared the President-elect of last Saturday\u2019s general election.<\/p>\n She made the declaration at the commission\u2019s corporate head office in Accra.<\/p>\n She announced that Mr. Mahama secured 6,328,397 (6.32 million) votes, representing 56.55 percent of the valid votes cast.<\/p>\n Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), polled 4,657,304 (4.65 million), representing 41.61 percent of the total valid votes cast.<\/p>\n The EC chairperson announced that the EC used the results from 267 constituencies, as results from nine constituencies were outstanding.<\/p>\n![\"Koku](\"https:\/\/cdn.ghanaweb.com\/imagelib\/pics\/727\/72738940.295.jpg\" "\\"Koku")
